The RDF Industry Group welcomed four new members at its first Group meeting of 2019: Biffa, ENVA, HVC and and Willshee’s Waste and Recycling.

Biffa is one of the UK’s largest waste management companies. It is also one of the UK’s largest producers of RDF, exporting c.570,000 tonnes per year from its 10 fuel preparation sites to facilities in the Netherlands, Germany, Norway and  Sweden. Biffa has provided fuel to its European energy from waste partners since 2011.

ENVA currently produces RDF for export from its sites in Colwick, Nottingham and Linwood, Paisley. These sites have been exporting RDF since 2014 and export in excess of 60,000 tonnes per year.

HVC, founded in 1994, is a public service waste and renewable energy company. It is one of the largest energy-from-waste producers in the Netherlands, with a total capacity of 1Mt per annum. It currently imports 145 kt of RDF from the UK, and expects demand to grow in the future.

Willshee’s Waste & Recycling Ltd is a family-run domestic, industrial and commercial waste management company based in Burton-on-Trent, UK. It is actively involved in the processing and exporting of RDF to northern Europe. It is opening a new 33 acre facility in Swadlincote, Derbyshire in 2020, which will produce a significant amount of both RDF and SRF.

This takes membership of the Group to 33 organisations from across the UK and Europe.
